Reliance Jio and Airtel launched Voice Over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service in India earlier this month. Wi-Fi calling service is supported on many smartphones of various brands. Nokia is the latest to support VoWiFi in India, which includes nine compatible phones.
. The service varies between cellular networks and Wi-Fi depending on availability. In India, Geo and Airtel offer Wi-Fi calling but there are some differences between the two services. Airtel's Wi-Fi calling is limited to Telco's broadband service. Geo allows users to connect to any Wi-Fi network to make voice and video calls.
Wi-Fi calling is available on these Nokia phones -
Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 8Sirocco, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.2, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.2, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1.
Airtel users can use WiFi calling on Nokia phones - Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 8Serico, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1.
Here's how you can start Wi-Fi calling on your Nokia phone.
Open the Settings menu.
In the search bar, type 'Wi-Fi Calling'
Enable Wi-Fi calling.
Users are advised to turn on VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling for a better experience. Once it's turned on, the phone automatically switches between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. There are no additional charges or data usage for calling via Wi-Fi.
